Evan Ducharme's ORIGIN

For his fifth season Evan Ducharme’s ORIGIN is a bold exploration of the colours, textures and experiences associated with his Métis heritage. Set to be unveiled on Friday, April 29th, 2016 at Space (552 Clark Drive) in East Vancouver, the concept emerged from memories Ducharme had of his father and grandfather’s hunting and trapping attire, balanced by flashbacks of his grandmother picking saskatoon berries in the woods. Traditional garments such as the jacket of the Coureur de Bois and the Métis sash (Ceinture fléchée) also make an appearance in the way of a cocktail dress and woven belts. !

Point of Inflection Cinemagraph Project

Point of Inflection Cinemagraph Project

(Real Vancouver Writer’s Series/SAD MAG)

Point of Inflection is a collection of short pieces of writing (150 words or less each by approximately 12 writers) around the idea of the focal moment of change (a “point of inflection”), expressed in any way the writer chooses. Local artists Christoph Prevost, David Phu, and Michael Champion will then create a cinemagraph and accompanying musical composition that interprets that piece. We will showcase the collaboration in a final gallery exhibition where the pieces of writing are displayed next to the cinemagraph that they inspired.

This innovative and moving display will be re-launched at Verses Festival of Words on Sunday April 24th from 11 PM – 1 AM! The event is all ages, $8 in advance and $10 at the door. If you miss the readings on the 24th, don’t worry, the visuals will still be up for viewing and free to walk through until April the 27th at SPACE, a gallery venue new for this year’s Verses Festival.

Big Smoke 1 Year Birthday Party

bigsmokevancouver.com

Big Smoke is an independent record label based in Vancouver, BC. Formed in 2015 after a couple years of miscellaneous experimentation under the banner, we retain our right to loose bounds and endeavour to release quality music-related content in varying forms for our artists and friends.

At the core of Big Smoke lies a love for Vancouver and a personal fascination with localized music scenes, and it is these two things that guide our output. We won’t be limited to working only with local artists, but are excited that everything we release will go out with a Vancouver stamp on it. Keep checking back for updates on upcoming releases and some of the other projects we're working on right now.

BODYTHOUGHTS - Vancouver

BodyThoughts is a unique platform for a new conversation about body truths.

Founded by photographer Alexa Mazzarello, and former international model, Erica McDonald, BodyThoughts aims to challenge the way people experience the world through their bodies.

Originating in Vancouver as an art pop-up experience, BodyThoughts desired to create a greater impact, taking the show to Toronto where it received coverage from CBC, Elle Canada and Notable.ca.

BodyThoughts has now evolved into a platform, disseminating the importance of body truths not only through pop-up events, but through powerful products and digital experiences.

Across all avenues, BodyThoughts asks: What are your body thoughts?
